This is an interesting, different approach from CR or TrueDelta. It looks at vehicles passing through auctions, and the number of miles they have on them and the types of problems declared.

Toyota was among the best brand, and 4runners scored extremely well- second only to the Land Cruiser, and not by much.

There are charts that show the average mileage of a particular vehicle compared to the average mileage for all vehicles.

I take any survey with a grain of salt. I use multiple sources....not just one. If you take all these survey's and average them together - it's closer to the truth.

large sample of T4R

interesting article: it seems the T4R had the largest sample size of all models with 1894 vehicles checked for the stats, that should be an indicator that the data are accurate

JD Powers is a complete joke. Their results do NOT reflect long term use. They've picked some of the WORSE vehicles ever as their best in class over the years.

If you want an accurate picture you have to take many different sources and actually READ the raw data. Not just the summary at the end. Then and only then can you make an informed decision.

And I agree with lifesaver - We're in the forum because we are all proud owners of a 4runner. But before I bought my 4runner I did a lot of research. I was very happy buying another Pathfinder since I owned 2. And I was able to put well over 300k trouble free miles on both of them. So if I was going to buy something different it had to be at least as good as them. And so far the 4runner has disappointed me yet. Now at 260k mils and going strong.
