Oil change WTF???

with you 3rd gen owners. do you ever take your 4runner to the dealership to do a simple oil change? i was considering this since its only like 5 bucks more expensive than the local quic change spots. i was just wondering what type of oil brand they use.

i thought about it since i just did mine for the first time. took me 45 minutes or so which will be 30 the next because i know what to do now. i dont like taking it to dealers they overtighten the hell out of everything. no lie i cranked on the filter by hand for about 10 minutes just to bust it loose. and no homo but im a pretty strong sob
 
I use a three foot socket externsion for the filter. Cost a few bucks at Harbor Freight and worth.

On a slightly related note - coming up on 1 year anniversary of tearing knee cartilage while changing the oil, Stood up with leg at a really bad angle and pow... Went from PITA to a PITK:frog:
 
I don't think its that big of a PITA, I'm sure everything is referring to the oil filter.
1.) Take off oil cap.
2.) Take off oil pan skid plate.
3.) Drain oil.
4.) Take off oil filter. Just peel away the fender liner, stick your hand in there and twist, if its on there good get an oil filter wrench and twist it off, if its on there real good just put duck tape around the inside of the oil filter wrench, put it back on and it'll come off.
5.) Lube the oil filter's rubber seal and reinstall.
6.) Plug the oil pan with a new washer and reinstall skid plate.
7.) Fill with oil.

thanks guys. but im just wondering now if the dealership is better or worst than these local oil change joints.
 
come on men..., get under the truck, reach up to the filter, unscrew, who cares if a little oil gets on your hands? Lay some cardboard down, clean up the excess oil and you're set :)

all for it..just not in 20 degree weather. garage is full so im on driveway
 
I live in Southern California too but have had to work on the truck in snow as well. Rub down some cardboard with a candle or surfwax on the groundside (so the snow/water doesn't make the cardboard wet) and you're insulated from snow while keeping oil from dripping getting to the ground.

Not necessary. I already posted how to changed the oil on a 6 cyl 4runner in 15 minutes and not spill one drop. It's very simple.
