I use Mobil-1 (5w30 viscosity) in my V6 4Runner and notice that it will typically use anywhere between zilch and half a quart between changes (about every 3,000 miles or so). Most vehicles I have owned consumed at least a little bit of oil - even when new. Half a quart over thousands of miles does not indicate any trouble. Now, if you are puffing blue smoke and dropping in a quart every time you get gas - then you have a problem.
Yeah, I know most of you think that is too often to change the oil when using synthetic.....but too bad. It's my truck until January, and I am "old school" when it comes to that type of thing. Cheap insurance in my book, ya know.
:awais:
As for the dipstick, it is almost impossible to see the oil level until you get at least a few hundred miles after a fresh change. That Mobil-1 is very clear. Oh, and why does Toyota just use two "dots" on the dipstick rather than "FULL" and "ADD" markings? Yeah, probably because they export their vehicles all over the world.
