Oil filter replacement after I've already filled with oil?

TLDR; Can I replace my oil filter without spilling a ton of oil everywhere even though I've already filled it up?

This is what I get when trying to replace all the fluids in the rig at one time. I drained/refilled the engine oil then realized I didn't change the oil filter. Is it possible to swap them out without draining the oil out? Or am I asking for a huge ass mess?

Engine off: yes, simple to remove and replace. Oil inside the old oil filter will come out, nothing more. Glad you didn't the other way around!

Get a form-a-funnel and wedge it below the filter, which will catch and route the oil to the drain pain of your choosing. You'll need to re-fill with 0.5 quart or less of oil after the filter change.

To clarify for the OP, you only need to add extra oil if you have started the engine since you drained and filled with new engine oil. If you haven't started it since new oil has been put in then you don't need to add any oil.
