Oil Used

Out of curiosity, what brand of oil is everyone using in their T4R? For my last change, I used Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy but I’ve historically used Pennzoil Platinum in my previous vehicles.

I used Mobil 1 0w-20 for my first oil change and a genuine Toyota filter, I will probably continue to do so.

Amsoil in 4Runner, both Subi's and both Harleys.

I used Mobile 1 simply because Costco had it for cheap. Any name brand synthetic is going to perform well. I wouldn't obsess about what the best oil is. All synthetic oils exceed standards now and it's nothing to lose sleep over.

I'm currently using Mobil 1 AFE 0W-20... but I've used Havoline and Valvoline (same 0W-20) for two of the oil changes so far, and I noticed no change in performance, or noise, or anything else discernible. As others have or will indicate, sticking with any brand name 0W-20 will get you long life out of your 4Runner.

OK, just did my first oil change at 30k (after Toyota handled 10k, 20k changes). Being in Phoenix, I made the decision to go with 5-30 Mobil 1. It is very rare to drop below 25F, but the upper end is truly insane, as I'm sure everyone knows. 110 is warm, 115 is getting pretty hot. And 120+???

I used and will continue to use the proper Toyota elements.

in your area I have been several times. this during the hot season. I could not handle the 120 F temps. no matter how much water I drank...

using 5-30wt should be no problem ... 0-20wt is for colder regions like most of USA/Japan...

I would consider using a higher viscosity rear diff oil. out in your area the 140 wt gear oil is used ..

check it out where you live what is used ..
 
There's a point to be made here...I've only ever used OEM filters. I have chosen not to skimp on a quality filter but there are those who will argue those are the same as well.

My dad has always sworn by Toyota OEM filters. He’s always had success with Toyota’s and his 1999 Tacoma has over 350,000 miles on it and still running strong.

In my opinion and in all likelihood the engine in my 2017 TRDOR should live past me. However incase of issue with it during the warranty period I am just going to Toyota to purchase an OEM filter and oil etc as I am going my own oil changes. Only do this for warranty reasons if they decide to be a bunch of _____s and try to pull something like that. I dunno just my 2 cents.
