Oil warning light

The temperature got down to about 0 degrees last night and this morning I warmed up the 4Runner about 5 minutes before I pulled out of the driveway. When I brake, my oil warning light on the dash goes on but when the car is accelerating it goes off. I pulled off to the side of the road, checked the dipstick and the oil level is normal. After about 5 minutes of driving, no more oil warning light.
Could I possibly need a new oil pump or oil pressure sensor? Thanks for the advice.

What kind of oil are you using? Viscosity?

That's not a normal thing for cold weather.
Best bet is to hook up a manual gauge to see what the pressure actually is.
What weight of oil are you using?

I'm currently using 5W30 synthetic blend.

5w30 is good for down to like -30*F so I don't think it's a temperature issue.


Run by a parts store or somewhere and see if they can pull any codes. I'm not quite sure if there is a code for oil pressure. Might have to have an actual pressure gauge to test it. But might tell you if you have a bad oil pressure switch... maybe?

Get yourself an oil pressure gauge and check the pressure soon. If the pressure reads OK, then it may just be a sensor. Pray that it is such.

When you press the brake, how was the RPM? You took your foot off the gas paddle, RPM dropped and the light came on. Can it be a possibility?

Thanks for all the advice guys. Finally took the 4Runner to my buddy's garage and we checked the oil pressure with a master gauge and it had good oil pressure (ruled out a bad oil pump). Oil sender was bad so we replaced it and everything is perfect now.
