First off, some background. I am new here to the 4runner world and just joined this forum. I come from 10 years of tacoma world with my 2001 Toyota Tacoma 5-speed stepside. My gf and I love backpacking with our dogs and we travel all over during our vacation to hike/drive the most remote trails. I decided on the 4Runner because I am ready for a change and needed some more interior cargo space as well as seating. Had Pepper for a week so far and I love her!

I sold my taco for my new 2017 4Runner named Pepper.

From the dealership:

Since then, I had the dealership install remote start for me and the TRD Pro black wheels. (I couldn't stand the glossy black on the stock wheels.)

I plan to upgrade to either weathertech or husky liners along with a cargo box on the next paycheck. This will be a slow process, but more will follow

I miss my 3rd gen interior so much! (Not the colors really which were the same as pictured above) Every piece felt solid and sturdy. The leather was nice and the pleather/plastic was still solid. I feel like I'm driving my daughters Mickey Mouse car in the new 4Runner aside from the technology, and every time I look at a piece hard, it's scratched for life. :ybrick:

Toyota f&%$ is wrong with you going full retard ! I feel like itsa a con. Going cheap on loyal custumers....... All the crap TRD has for 5th Gens is TRD oil caps cheap badges and TRD interior.... Where the TRD performance $hit at ?!?!


Also, love the interior of the Tacoma, reminds me of my 3rd gen Limited, which I gave to my bro who let it rot, which I took care of again and sold it to a fellow at work. I can see it at work still hehe. Engine on that thing is indestructible.

Nice 4Runner I just picked up the same thing. First thing I did was swap out the wheels with the TRD and get BF Goodrich KO2s on there. I have Baja Design replacement foglights coming in and Pelyfreybilt sliders on the way.

Hope you enjoy the 4runner. I love the crap out of it right now. Look forward to seeing what you do with it!

Husky liners are here!

Just got my husky liners in! I decided to go with the full package.

Pros:

The front seats and the 2nd row seats fit perfectly and have a lip that keeps all the dirt and liquid in.

Cons:

I didn't realize they show scuffs so easily. (They are easy to wipe off but still)

I'm a little upset with the cargo liner not working too well so far.

I also grabbed a cargo bin to throw my toolbox stuff in in the meantime until I can get a decent cargo box.

Next steps:

- Decide between the cheaper nfab nerf bars for now and upgrade later, or go ahead and spend more for the demello offroad rock sliders

- Get the gobi roof rack so Pepper can go on her first camping trip!

Just got my husky liners in! I decided to go with the full package.

Pros:

I had the same issue with Husky liners I bought for my Ford F350 one time. I switched back to Weathertech. Being black they still show marks but because they have a different type of surface they don't look as bad. Also they don't have that curling (warping) problem.

Swapped in black valances from TRD Pro

Got sidetracked a bit, but swapped out the front and rear valances with the trd pro black ones.

Parts:
- front black valance (2016 worked for my 2017):
Valance Panel (black) - 53901-35240

- rear black valance (2016 worked for my 2017):
Center Cover (black) - 52169-35120

(You don't need to order clips if you are taking the bumper off)




1. Completely remove the bumpers to get to the back of the valance where the clips are.

2. The rear bumper was straight forward and took about 15 min while the front bumper required a little more attention due to the fog light connections and more body clips that can easily be screwed up.

3. The rear bumper was easily a one man job, but the front you definitely need four hands just to keep it even as you pry the bumper off the body.

Pros: Love every bit of it!

Cons: Here in Texas we are required to have a front license plate and I hate drilling into a brand new valance piece. Fortunately Toyota has these little dimples that show where you need to go and anchors on the back that hold the screw in firmly.

- Get the "TOYOTA" coverlay piece for the front bumper (PZ323-35056)
- Get the replacement grille for the front bumper (PZ327-35053)

*NEW UPDATE* - Swapped Front Grille

Probably went a little overboard on how much I spent on this stupid garnish, but it was totally worth it! The install was super easy and they send instructions when ordered from Toyota. The only part that you really need to watch out for is the garnish install - take the extra time to make sure its centered because it will look funky if not.

I have never seen the clips covering the engine block before this, but you DO NOT NEED TO PRY THEM OFF. Just take your thumb and press the button in and use your fingernails to lift the whole thing out. When putting it back in, reset the clip by pushing it up from the bottom (the button should be sticking out of the clip) and place it back in the hole. Just press the button down to where its flush and done.

Demello Offroad Sliders, Black Badges, Kuat Bike Rack

Been a while since an update - i've been waiting on the rock sliders to come in.

I bought some new badges and sprayed them with some Krylon fusion (mixture of flat and satin).

I was able to order the rock sliders from the Toyota of Dallas store which ended up being a little bit cheaper than ordering it from Demello's website, and a 1 1/2 week delivery time.

I had contacted demello before I bought them to ensure it would be able to support the weight of the 4runner if jacked and I got a YES. Very happy with them so far - its been about 3 weeks now. (yes these are bolt ons)

Also threw in the Kuat bike rack v2.0 for my outside hobbies. (what sold me was the fact that it tilts out of the way so the lift gate can still operate with the bikes on, and the bike stand incorporated on the end of it for fast and easy maintenance.)

-roof light bar front and back
-accent lights
