Passenger dash pulling loose - and I searched

Search engine didn't help much. It seems to be common for the dash between glovebox and airbag to pull up. On mine there are two clips that look like they are totally bent out of shape - I am the only owner and it has never been apart but the clips are pretty useless. Has anyone found a solution? I am thinking it would be fairly easy to drill a hole behind the dash and have a bolt attached to the dash and screw it down. However I cannot find a good way to mount the bolt to the backside of the dash with coming out into the cockpit. Ideas/thoughts?

I would love to find some sort of bolt that has a spiral attachment instead of a head. I could "screw" the spiral attachment into the back side of the dash and have the bolt portion go thru a hole I drill. Attach nut and never again... Second choice is to carefully drill hole from the car side of dash - thru to the firewall section. Then drill out a small recess for the bolt head and cap it with some sort of plug

Same thing is happening on mine, not as much as yours though. I haven't looked at how its attached really but thought about just gluing it down.

Exactly sane problem on my 97. IDENTICAL !! If you look closely, there is some sort of a thin tab. That basicslly clips behind the other part of the dash. I'm sure there is a fix, probably need to remove glove box and get behind it little and mess wiith it.

Just noticed this on my 97 last week! ill just glue it down if it gets bad. Unless there is a better solution.

I have a few ideas to look at. It's not simple. There are "clips" and they are useless. The one closest to the radio looks like it was in a train wreck. I may try adhesive but I doubt that will work. The tension of the dash is very high. I am thinking (as I mentioned above) that the only thing is a new type of fastener unless there is some really strong glue I can find

edit - I am find a few articles on some glues that may be promising.

I fixed mine, and it was pretty easy. I peeled the fabric material back a little so I could drill a hole 1/4" hole through the panel and the dash. I then hot glued a 10-24 pan head screw between the panel and fabric. Waited for to dry, and hot glued the fabric back in place. Then you can push the panel back in with te screw going through the hole in the dash. If you remove your glove box you should be able to get you hand behind the dash to where the screw came through. Then use a wing nut to hold it in place. Mine has been like that for about a year now.

That is one idea I am thinking off.. I am not quite clear how you did it though. Did you drill all the way thru from the panel (ie glove box side) thru the plate or did you drill from the backside to create a hole in the panel to mount the screw head? I know a screw/bolt will work but I am not sure how to mount it to the back of the panel without going in from the front.
I also picked up some commercial adhesive today and will play with that in a few days

Resurecting this thread after a few years. I used E6000 on the edge of mine in 2014. I then "gave" the truck to my niecesfor a couple of years and just got it back. The dash is worse but I know understand a little more about what Toyota tried to do. here is the dash. Toyota used some very cheap metal tabs to try and hold a curved piece of foam in place. The tabs unbend the dash uncurls. The tabs actually have holes in them and all Toyota should have done is use the hole and put a clip thru it. I bought some clips and can do that on the center tab. The far left can't be accessed unless you take off parts of the airbag system from below. Not interested in that. I bought E6000 cement and two sticks to provide tension. In 2014 I tried a clamp and found it very difficult to find any area to attach the clamp. I used some dowels and paint stirrer to provide tension. I also tried some heat and quickly stopped. It seemed like the heat was hurting the dash. It seems to have worked but no idea for how long.
