Please give me a reason why I need to change the rear diff oil every 25K miles

I changed the rear diff fluid on a ‘92 F150 with 320,000 miles and while it didn’t look new, it wasn’t bad. It was even a salvage title due to flooding. The guy who bought it at 65,000 was an idiot, so bad he put motor oil in the brake fluid reservoir. I bought it at 198,000. I had the brakes flushed and drove it till I sold it at 360,000. Replaced a starter that whole time. I guess they don’t make them like they used to if a “rock solid, bulletproof” Toyota needs the rear diff changed every 25,000. I may do 50,000.

I did 60,000 miles on the diffs of my two 04 grand Cherokees. Never changed the rear Diff fluid on my 94 cummins with 180,000 on the clock but the front diff had it done 3 times due to axle seal failures.

I change my Diff fluids every spring. Gear oil is cheap.

I’m thinking it’s because if the fluid. Toyota uses no friction modifiers and refuses to.

OP probably leases German cars and is a firm believer in their 15k oil change intervals. "It still ran great when the lease was over"
