Some of those boost packs are dated... today these things are pretty small.

Look at stuff like this which is based off lithium cells.

As for affordable air... seems like the Viair 88P is a good contender. Reviews are pretty dang positive.

On a slightly related note... Anyone ever thought about putting a charging port on their bumper or somewhere on the outside like some Tow Trucks have? They just pull out their jumper cables, plug them into the socket and do it that way?

I have... its actually a pretty nice modification.

Its basically just an Anderson quick disconnect, same as what the tow truck guys use, or what can be found on the other end of those jumpers, just scaled down in size because I don't need it for jump current....

My battery never goes flat with a dual battery setup, its there more for accessory power, tent, charging/maintainer... external power all comes from the 2nd battery and is protected by a low voltage disconnect.

Truck stays plugged in when not in use... radios, fridge... everything stays on.

Consumer report did a test on lithium starter packs and while all started a cold and weak battery, NONE started the cold and weak battery if the booster itself was cold.
Most of those were 1000 amps and lower
Food for thought.. If it fails the first time, and it was stored outside in cold climate, try warming up the booster before trying a second time

I find this to be a bit counterintuitive considering its lithium battery tech that performs better in cold weather.

I see it in my flashlight after moving many of them from AA to Lithium / CR123 / 18650.

Perhaps its a sizing problem... I would not recommend anything smaller than the 1k amp for things like trucks.

i just replace it every 4-5 years and never carry a jumper pack, just a jumper cable. i could consider a dual setup battery but too much hassle. i keep my old battery though fully charged and use it when camping or other stuff. works well for me.
