I'm thinking about picking up an 2002 4runner I found on craigslist. It has 98k miles, limited, sr5, and it also has the TRD supercharger. He's asking $9000. Should I try to get him down any? It looks like it's in good shape other than 2 small quarter sized rust spots.

sounds good. That supercharger alone cost upwards of $1500 so $9000 isn't a bad price with mileage and everything, except that's right around when the T-belt and some other parts should be changed, if those haven't been done, look to cut some off of the price for immediate repairs required. Just my .02 bud.

Thats what I was thinking. I might just pass on it... I really would rather have a cheaper 96-2000 lmited for the e locker. I found 4 more 4runners:

1997 supercharged with 160k miles for 5000 obo, limited, has had the radiator replaced and the tranny flushed though so it kinda scares me. Looks like it's in excellent condition

1997 has 98k miles for $5200, and is the limited with rear locker. This one seems like the best deal. It's in excellent condition as well.

2000 with 5 speed tranmission and 133k for 6500 at a dealer. I would love to have a 5 speed. This one is in ok shape. Rust on the rear bumper and the passengers side front fender has a dent.

2000 5 speed green with the highlander package I believe. It has 144k miles on it with a few dents but hes only asking 5000.

Really struggling trying to make a decision. I want a 5 speed but would love to have a limited with the e locker and I would love to have a supercharged runner.

If you want a 5-speed and E-locker you can have that, just might have to wait. I bought my 1997 4runner with a 5-speed and factory E-locker for $5500 in the PNW with no rust and decent interior with a clean exterior. They come around from time to time, just have to wait. A supercharger can be picked up and added later (my plan) but of course it's going to cost more and require a decent amount of work. The 1st 4runner on your list sounds like a great option, the automatics are known for having an issue with the radiotor and tranny fluid mixing, the fact that it's changed probably means either preventative maintenance or something wasn't right so they replaced it. Either way it's nothing I'd be to concerned over. A rear E-locker can be retrofitted and there are threads on here of how to do that, and I believe it's cheaper than having to add on a supercharger. Hope this helps. I'd wait for one you really want though, that's what I had to do.
