Scion Head Unit

Don't know if anyone else is interested in buying a Scion Head Unit; there are plenty listed on Ebay is pretty affordable.

I just picked this up PT546-00170 for under $150 which includes shipping. With all the other parts added on I'm pretty confident that I'll spend under $350 with would include the backup camera.

But a PT546-00160 under $150 is most definitely available.

Just wanted to give this thread a shoutout! I read through all 10+ pages and it contained a trove of great information for the retrofit. Anyone who's bored and wants a cheap audio upgrade/new project should take this on, it was easy even for a n00b wrencher like myself.

All in, I spent ~$200 and while I could've had something with CarPlay/Android Auto for a couple hundred more, I prefer the clean factory look.

I ended up with the PT546-00170 and while it's all snazzy and new, I can't help but feel the older Scion headunits would better match the amber interior lighting and overall age/'feel' of the truck, but I don't have any regrets - it was a great deal ($120 shipped from eBay) and at least the 00170 displays 'Toyota' on start-up. :car:

Has anyone successfully updated the PT546-00160 using the USB port?

I would at least like to update the Gracenote database to reflect more of the current artists playing on the screen, but I haven't had much luck finding a recent update file...

I installed a T1819 in our 2007 FJ Cruiser. Everything work except the bluetooth. I don't have a bluetooth mic yet. I understood that the music would stream, even if the bluetooth mic wasn't installed. I can't get it to stream and when I push and hold the main button, bluetooth doesn't come up on the menu. Also I pulled out an old IPOD and connected it by a usb cable. The music played but the ipod just read, "ready to disconnect."

Any sources for bluetooth mic other than the dealer? Seems that they want around $70 for the mic.

I believe you will have to have the Bluetooth mic for Bluetooth to work. When I was hooking everything up on mine, Bluetooth only worked once I installed the mic.
If there is an aftermarket mic that is plug and play, I am not aware of it. You can take the oem mic part number and check online and compare prices.

Just for kicks, I picked up a pt546-1700 head unit. The guys was selling it cheap. I am a little concerned whether it will function. As I understand it, the bluetooth streaming should work, even without the mic. I ordered a mic today from the local Toyota dealer, $52. It won't be here until tomorrow. Where does the mic plug in? Is it part of the harness or does it plug into the headunit itself. thanks Phil

I got home and decided to install the PT564-00170.. Wow! It works great. I don't have the mic yet, should be here tomorrow. I made a call, I can hear the person on the other end, but they can't hear me. Bluetooth music streaming works great. AHA program downloaded and is working. I think that I will keep this one and sell the two T1819s that we have. Photos to follow. Question- the USB port seems to transmit data, but doesn't seem to charge the phone. Ideas? Our BMW usb port does the same thing. The USB cable does charge, it just doesn't quick charge. Picked up a mic from the local Toyota dealer for $52. Installing later today.

Mic is installed, parked it sounds great, I am told. Will try it out on the road a bit later. Install was easy plug and play. I elongated the holes on the radio brackets to angle the face of the radio a bit to give the driver and passenger a better viewing angle. Great upgrade and for the price it is tough to beat. I didn't need or want a dvd player or a head unit that would play video content.

New-to-me 2005 4Runner JBL Synthesis (no aux or usb)

So, I just picked a PT-546-00160 and most of the harnesses to install the head unit.

The one thing I cant figure out is how to install the AUX input. Since my 4runner did not come with Aux and USB, I am wondering how to get it installed.

Anyone know which wires I need to splice into to connect AUX?

Bringing this thread back to life. I just picked up a PT546-00170 that has the Nav unit attached. I've read its a nightmare to source the gps antenna.

any idea if this one will work?

Change scion display and lag in connection

So I installed the 00160 into my runner yesterday everything when smooth. Couple questions .

Is there a way to change the Scion screensaver when the unit first comes on ? I searched all over and couldn’t find a fix.

Does anyone else’s Bluetooth lag in connecting? Everything pairs and the head unit reads what’s on my phone but music still plays from only the phone . Eventually it will play from the car speakers but at times takes a bit .

Hey all,

Wanted to make an easy to find thread since the Scion FRS Radio thread is 25+ pages deep. I started with the Scion radio's in my 07 back in 2014 and when the above thread was 2-3 or so pages long with the 2013 FRS BeSPoke Radio.

It was great, touch screen, backup, bluetooth. Now that I got my second 4runner, I wanted the same OEM-ish look but was looking for a newer one, and I came across this gem.

PT546-00160. They're out of the 2016+ Scion line up. Mine came out of a Scion iM.

I'm still waiting on my backup camera and USB cable (for AHA Features) to arrive, but I couldn't wait another week to install lit, so I got after it last night.

Take off your OEM Brackets, and mount on new unit.

Apply your Harnesses, Both Antenna's and Mic in their appropriate slots

Mounted mine right under the cluster. Clear clarity and not noticed unless someone looks for it specifically.

Put all the trim pieces back in place and Walla!

Bluetooth & Phone works great! Now I just have to install the backup camera and the USB extension when it comes in. - I'll update the thread when I do get it in.

Grabbed a radio, $125, and looking at all the necessities with it. I missed the reasoning for the GM antenna adapter? I have not been into the dash of my 4runner, so no idea what is back there. The 2 Toyota PN I have in my cart at TPD, just want to make sure I get everything and why everything is needed

Is there a Toyota equivalent to the scion head unit? I have the old scion now and bluetooth just crapped out. Small detail but would just feel better if it said Toyota on the thing and startup screen rather than Scion
