Just took my wonderful 4Runner into my local dealer because the clutch felt like it was 'slipping'. Sometimes when I push it in I can 'feel' the transmission grinding faintly. This only started about 2 months ago.
They charged me $150 to tell me the transmission is going and that it will cost $3,000 to rebuild.
They also said to just keep driving it.
I wanted to ask about both of those things. Is that how much the transmission is going to cost to replace or rebuild?
What's the worse thing that could happen if I continue to drive it? I have dealt with broken clutches before so I'm familiar with shifting without having a clutch..is that essentially what will happen when the transmission ultimately fails?
Oh and I have 280,000 miles on it and hadn't planned on giving it up anytime soon.
thanks!
