Rattle noise at 2300-2500 RPM

Hey ya'll,

For the past year or so, I've had this annoying vibration coming from the engine bay when I'm reving between 2300-2500 RPMs. It's incredibly consistent, starts perfectly at 2300, always ends at 2500.

I don't even know how to go about diagnosing it? Any tips to figure it out? I can't really think of any more information to provide except that my rig is lifted with arb bumper & bud built skids.

I've thought about having someone else put the car in neutral with parking brake on and poking my head around the engine bay... that a good way to diagnose?

Start by checking all the heat shields. I had what I thought was a transmission problem for a year before I finally found the loose heat shield. It made the sound at the same rpm every time which occurred at the same shift point.

Interesting! Was there a specific heat shield that was lose for you?

Two of the four bolts holding the heat shield over my muffler just came through causing the shield to sit on the muffler. You can imagine how bad that sounded. I was relieved when I figured out that's all it was. Yes, carefully poke your head around while someone revs it up.

Interesting! Was there a specific heat shield that was lose for you?

It was close to the front propeller shaft on the driver side. I used a very large worm type clamp that you can get at Lowes or HD. I also had the shield above my muffler pull through and just used large washers and the stock screws to rehang it.
