Rear Disc for 3rd Gen?

Did the 3rd Gen ever come with rear disc? Can you retrofit a sr5 2wd that doesn't have them?

I'm thinking of towing around a pretty light travel trailer… 2500 pounds…

Wondering if I would rather put rear disc on the truck than brakes on the trailer.

I cant help with the conversion,

but the drum brakes are more than adequate if adjusted, and working properly. also, brakes on the trailer will be MUCH more affective than swapping to rear disc on the truck.

If you want a good upgrade to your brakes, look into the Tundra Brake Upgrade.

Rear brakes are totally sufficient. Mine aren't even very well adjusted and yet they lock up before the fronts do.

I think you are worrying a little unnecessarily. The manual rates the 4runner for 5000lbs. I wouldnt blink an eye at 2,500. I tow my heavy-a$$ 19 foot mako all over the place without worry. Just hook it up and go man.

It has been done before. You can use a mix of parts from other vehicles which I am personally not a fan of. This will also require an ABS disable. The best option which is quite expensive for most here is sourcing and installing the rear brake assembly or even the whole rear axle out of a 90 series Land Cruiser Prado which was never sold stateside.

The rear axles/housing from the 2003 and up with disc brakes look like they would swap in, has anyone tried that?
