Rear Ended

So my truck got its first hint of damage. Tonight somebody managed to hit my rear bumper in the parking lot. It looks pretty bad. Worse than you might think for a parking lot accident. Yall probably won't be able to answer my question until I get pics up tomorrow but if just my bumper is messed up should I just take it to Toyota and get a replacement and paint job? I'm not paying for it.

That sucks but I'm glad all involved are okay...the best thing about accidents is you can now upgrade to a more solid rear-end and make people fear the rear!
 
Had almost the exact same damage. I think I got about $1000. I got a bumper from a junkyard, had a shop paint it, and replaced it myself. I walked away with $700 in my pocket. I could have had $800 in my pocket, but the blue is impossible to find. A steel bumper will look silly if you are just doing the rear only with no other modifications.
 
Agreed with everyone else. Looks like a few tabs broke out. The dent could just be pushed out from the inside. In regards to replacement for reference it was almost $1000.00 for a front bumper when an individual did a low mph hit to my front end(documented in my build thread). I waited until a group buy and got a shrockworks for another $400. I would say either accept the damage as is, and see if the brackets are cleanly broken or just bent and can be repaired, or maybe look at option of plated rear bumper. Dealership is a rip off and they usually do A/M parts unless asked. The painting is the expensive part. Good luck!
 
I've got a silver rear bumper in good shape I'd be willing to get rid of cheap if you want it (it's just taking up space in the garage since I got the 4x4 Labs). I'm pretty sure I have all the mounting hardware as well.

I'm in NW FL, but travel to Atlanta pretty often.
 
I think I'm just gonna end up getting a new oem because like I said, I don't have to pay for it, the person who hit me is. Also I don't think the rear bumper will look right without a front one and don't really have the money for those right now. Thanks guys
 
The bumper comes in 3 parts and it appears only your right hand side was damaged. Parts geek.com has that for under $100. Get it painted and install yourself and pocket $800 for your trouble.

Agreed, but don't necessarily take it to the dealer. Take it to the best body shop near you. In my area the Chevy dealer has an awesome body shop that i heard great reviews on. Took my wifes car and dad's truck there and the work was flawless and paint match perfect. They did my aunt's 4runner after a head on with a deer and once again absolutely flawless. Never would have guessed a Chevy dealer, but they rock!
 
I would never take mine to the dealer. We have two very good body shops nearby. That's what they do, that's all they do, fix damaged cars. And they do it very well. I agree about around 1k.

I am doing the same. I called Toyota and they directed me to the body shop at Chevy so that's where mine is probably gonna get fixed. Going for an estimate tomorrow.

The only argument I would have for this is most large dealerships have their own body shop. So even though they may not be an independent body shop they are in fact certified and specialize in the vehicle. Also the dealership is more likely to properly warranty their repairs than a mom and pop shop that isn't insured or certified.
In regards to being referred to the Chevy dealership by Toyota. This is also common as sometimes several dealerships are owned by the same parent company, and instead of having the amazing set up of a fully functioning body shop at every dealership they have it all set up at one dealership and send all the makes to that single shop. I wouldn't be fearful of a dealership doing bodyshop work there making sure proper tools and training by employees to cover all models. They usually also have more cash flow to fund the body shop and have state of the art facilities.


I would just prepare for what it will cost. As it may seem expensive up front, but most dealership will warranty their work for as long as you own the vehicle on the repairs they did.
