It's over filled. It's really easy to have the axle leaning one side or the other where it'll fill up the axle tube with extra oil before it begins to spill out of the fill hole. That's why you have to do it on a level surface. Hey, it's your seals that you risk blowing out eventually because too much pressure in the axle. Especially since the manual clearly states 3.05 quarts.

Looks like you edited your post, because I sure as shit didn't misquote you or edit the quote. I have no reason to. This is YOUR first service on your diff. I've been changing my gear oil for years and personal experience says it's around 3 quarts before it comes out the fill hole. I'll be waiting for the "my rear seals are leaking" post. Take it easy.

Already said I had no reason to misquote you. If it happened, it happened by accident, I could care less. You still overfilled by Toyota's recommendations, and you overfilled by my personal experience of multiple diff changes. Pull your panties out of your ass and move on chief.

3 quarts = running out of the fill hole on an even stable driveway. I'm from under filled. Lucas 85-140 is thick and clings better than that water (Mobil 1) everyone else uses. Out of 104 ounces I would be missing 8 ounces. I wheel my rig hard, I drive it hard, I change my rear fluids every 3-4 months regardless of mileage and it's usually black and nasty. Regardless, I'd still rather be underfilled with a quality gear oil than overfilled and risk blowing out my seals. To each their own, go find someone else to argue with.

Exactly Danny Boy, to each their own, you should take your own advice and leave Keagar alone, just an FYI I wasn't arguing with you I was just trying point out to you in a nice way that you apparently don't know how to even read the manual Toyota put together, but you come here and give incorrect info to others, hmmm, but I will give you credit for posting the image of what Toyota wrote for their diff capacities so everyone can see you were wrong!!

I also find it funny that your level surface is level but Keakar's is not even though he knows if his surface is level moreso than you.

Another FYI, this is not arguing, just setting the record straight IMHO, but to your eyes I'm sure you'll see it differently.

I was hardly wrong about the capacities. 3.05 or 3.2, it's less than 8 ounces between the two. It's still a far cry from 3.75.

Let's do some math.

3.75 quarts is 120 ounces
3 quarts is is 96 ounces
3.2 quarts is 102.4 ounces

I'd rather be 6.4 ounces underfilled than 17.6 ounces overfilled.

I use a level to get both axle tubes even across jack stands and at the right height so that it's sitting correctly when I fill it up.

You came here asking for help and then overfilled your rear axle by almost 20 ounces of gear oil. I'm merely trying to keep other people from making your mistake. Sure I quoted the wrong capacity, but the difference between 3.05 and 3.2 is 5.76 ounces of gear oil. Overfilling anything with oil, engine included, will likely lead to premature seal failure. Seal failure on the rear axle can lead to bearing failure. Trying to save you a headache further down the road but I can see you weren't worth my time.

yes we know, you said it way too many times already. you want everyone to under fill the rear axles, just because that is what you did for yours.

everyone reading this thread will read your advice, and then ignore it and follow the service manual instructions as laid out in the service manual on the proper fill procedure just like i did, and fill it until it comes back out the fill hole.

if they are smart, no one will follow your advice of under filling the rear end just because you said to lol.

There are multiple ways of accomplishing the same thing...

You can edit your post within a couple minutes and not have it say 'edited'.
