thanks for the review, I am in the market for an awning so its nice to see all the options.
as a GX owner not being able to open the hatch is a non-issue.
the price though is pretty steep, nearly $700. you do get quite a bit of shade with it though. something I will consider if I don't get the front runner tent (since I have the front runner rack)

I guarantee when you buy this awning you will never regret it!

How is this thing in any sort of wind?

sorry i missed this. there are multiple tie down points for guy lines. i'd use common sense with any type of awning as they are just a big sail.

FINALLY had a reason to use the awning today! Was such a great thing to have at the beach for the kids. Accessing the cooler and back was no issue because I just rolled the window down.

Way outta my budget but awning is sweet!! What about a "limit strap" set-up so you could open the hatch say 80%... doable?

And Alaska... is that for real? If so, details? Road trip pipe dream here...

Yes. Not fully, but enough to get whatever you may need. Rolling the back window down was sufficient enough for my needs this trip.

FINALLY had a reason to use the awning today! Was such a great thing to have at the beach for the kids. Accessing the cooler and back was no issue because I just rolled the window down.

Can this batwing awning be deployed say only 2/3rds in the case that you may want the rear hatch open for an extended amount of time such as tailgating or camp set up? ... or will it collapse in on itself if that last section isn't full deployed around the back?

Also, if you have a second, what is the vertical height (of just the awning itself including bag) when its all closed up...mabye like 8" or so? Believe it or not, the Rhino Rack product page only lists a total/max height when its deployed (90.55")... not dims of the bag when its all closed up other than length.

Have you tried opening the hatch without the ladder? Any chance it would clear enough that way?

Wow, that thing is huge! Do you have to have the roof rack to mount this product or could it mount to the stock roof rails?

Funny enough I actually have that awning kit and it doesn't fit my stock roof rails after I powder coated them. Thanks for posting though
