Road trip WV and NC

We'll be driving up to Lincoln County WV for a couple days then down to Charlotte, NC for a week to visit The wife's family. I was wondering if there are any interesting sites to see along the way. It's pretty flat down here and I love the mountains so I'm pretty excited about the trip and just want to take advantage while we're there.

These guys do a lot of there trips in that area, might be worth checking out. Old NC HWY 105 is a great little road, it follows the Linville Gorge with a few overlooks. Anywhere in the Pisgah Ranger or Grandfather district is great. Miles of forest roads. Uwharrie is about 1.5 hours east of Charlotte but a several good trails out there if thats what your looking for.

If you're looking to go wheeling, Uwharrie is pretty close to Charlotte

Heard good things too about Uwharrie, should be worth checking. Looking forward with your trip report.
