Seat 'protrusions'

I have the leather interior option on my '03 Sport model and the other day noticed that the passenger seat has two 'bumps' that protrude up from something below the leather skin. It's hard to describe, but if I press on them with my finger I can feel something hard inside there. It's really high up on the seat back, below the headrest, and out to each edge of the seat back on the front-facing surface. Does anybody else have this? What is underneath that's protruding?? I just don't want it to cause any damage and eventually poke through the leather.

I assume the leather was dealer installed? Our Sienna with factory leather had the same problem and it was a small wire that was protruding....part of the framing.

Most dealers have access to a leather installer that should be able to remove the cover and fix it....especially if they did the install in the first place....point is...get it fixed or eventually it will wear through.

Is there a way to find out if the leather was factory or dealer installed? I am assuming it was factory, but since I purchased the vehicle used I have no way to know for sure. And since the vehicle has 53k miles on it, I'm assuming no dealership will cover it under warranty, correct?

I guess I will need to try to get ahold of a car upholstery shop to see if they can remove whatever it is that's in there.

Luckily the part of the seatback where it is, is not a high wear area. It is on either side of where a passenger's shoulder is, and it's high enough up that it's usually above the shoulders.

Only the Limited models come with factory leather (someone correct me if I am wrong). Either way, i t sounds like you are out of warranty and will need to find an leather shop...I would steer away from the stealership and find someone local that can remove the seat cover to figure out what is going on....good luck.

I agree that a good upholstery shop is a better place to go than the dealership for something like this.
