Seatbelt tensioner rebuild

Is this feasible? I like to do things myself. Anyone know a thing or two about this? Obviously some powder graphite snd springs, but can I get away without all the extras or do I actually need them?

I asked the dealer about this and the said they could sell me the whole assembly for around $50 I think it was. I asked about installing it myself because it's tied into the SRS system. They basically said to disconnect the battery and ground any connections prior to disconnecting.

I have a 96 so none of the 'explode it tight in a crash' tensioning. IIRC the front belts on the husband's 99 does have it.

I pulled apart a rear belt mechanism because curiosity. Though from searches others have had some luck with altering the spring so it worked better, from that personal experience I wouldn't recommend it unless as in my case you have a replacement in the wings-

it was not easy to put back together and that spring is a bad word and the locking mechanism is recalcitrant and it worked about the same after I was done. After all that I'll eventually get around to just replacing the front belts when it gets annoying enough.

I did find it to be interesting to do though. The housing on the 96's is clear plastic so a lot of the action can be either seen or surmised without its being taken apart.
