Oops. Yep. And some are bent (not my T4R key, thankfully). But my keyfob for my 2008 Limited is rather cracked and with some sticking buttons now.

I don't want a 3rd party made in China POS replacement. I'll get either an OEM replacement or maybe I will splurge and put in a new alarm and fob with remote starter. Which I might actually do as I'd planned to at some point anyway. It'd just delay my HID upgrades. But to decide, can anyone tell me the ballpark cost for an OEM replacement and programming? Major holiday weekend and this happened minutes before the shops closed until Tuesday.

save some money and go to a alarm and stereo shop, consider a compustar 2 way, or look at the drone option, they still give you a fob in case you dont get any signal from the phone.

theres the other brand "directed"

they have different brands like viper , clifford , avital.
they are the same product, one charges more than other in some cases.
some installer prefer that brand, i personally use compustar, the range is crazy, good for hot summer days where you want to leave the ac on, and heater on when its cold.

if you are good with electrical and not afraid to install, its simple, but if you mess up, it can cause more problems.
taking these to certified dealers is a must, thats how the lifetime warranty works on the brains. some shop even warranty the extra stuff they do.

If you get a regular key without the remote, you just need it cut and you can program it yourself (that is what I did) it is a matter of certain sequences to follow.

I would highly recommend to get a compustar remote starter and alarm or whatever floats your boat if you want just alarm or just remote starter.

I had many viper, python, compustar, arctic start, Nordic start, pro start, autostart, and chinese remote starter alarms.

From my experience, the best one to date I have is compustar. I found the range was further than dei products (viper, python, autostart) and the remote interface system was better and more responsive and battery last longer if you have a rechargable one.
 
If the fob casing is just damaged, order an aftermarket one from AJT Design. They come in different colors, and look awesome too. But if you are saying there are more problems than that, get a new fob with aftermarket case. You wont regret it.

I just checked out their site. Looks pretty sweet and a nice refresh on factory fobs. Do you own one personally? If so, what colors did you go with? Curious to see how the surface material combat against scratches

I bought 2 of them from their ebay store. I bought one in the Tan that matches toyotas quicksand color and one in black with red screws. I prefer the Tan color better. So far they have held up well. A couple of scratches but nothing Im to worried about.
