Tacotunes nightmare from hell

Hi all,

Few years ago I did a taco tunes install with the 5 channel amp and recurve.

The shop did a shitty install job and there were wires every where, ground noise, and a buzz sound when I turn the ignition.

Fast forward to today - I paid $250 to have the whole wiring job redone and now my phone has no sound over Bluetooth. My music plays tho….

I feel like I can hear a faint sound of my voice when trying to call myself from my workphone but I’m really lost. I tried to disconnect, tried my work phone, everything. I can play music normally but when I switch to phone audio there is nothing.

Help me please before I sell my car

you shouldve taken it back 5 years ago to the shop with the shit install. goodluck.

I did. They “took a look” and didn’t do anything except threw on some noise filters that didn’t do anything to help.

I’m trying to basically rip and replace now but this is turning into a nightmare. The shop I took it to today is supposed to be the nicest one around and is the most expensive here in SoCal. I called them and let them know of the issue and they said they didn’t touch the radio - only did a rewire. Said maybe some factory settings reset with the battery but this just doesn’t make sense now

f. that sucks.

Yeah, not really sure what to do here cause this feels like a bigger issue than a connection ordeal. I don’t know if a wire got crossed or what but I don’t get how this makes sense conceptually from an electronic standpoint. Why would Bluetooth music work but not Bluetooth phone?

I feel like I need to be ready to buy a new head unit. I’m really upset about all this. I could’ve lived with the buzz noise - wtf use is my head unit without the telephone function.

I’m supposed to take it in Friday for them to swap the Tacotunes recurve with Rockford fosgate dsr1 so I’m hoping they can figure out what’s up

Update: a phone call comes through very faintly when volume turned all the way to the max. This seems really odd - why would the music work but not a voice call from an iPhone?

Yes - does not work. I tried my other iPhone as well and same issue. It’s not an issue with my phone(s).

Very confused what this could be coming from

check the wiring for the phone mic in the car on the back of the head unit to ensure proper connection, damage or loose connection? Pulling the head unit take maybe 5 minutes. Mic is located near the overhead console with ATRAC / garage door buttons etc..

Ok will check this - thanks

Does this make sense tho as it seems to be an output from the speakers? It doesn’t seem like a mic issues but maybe the mic could cause something else?

I may have misunderstood the problem.
Low volume on phone calls where you cant hear the person? Check the front door speaker & dash tweeter for volume playing normal music faded and balance it all up front. See if speaker is working properly and connected. Believe one of those is where the call comes in. There is probably a volume option during calls in settings somewhere for bluetooth calls on the head unit too.

Don't spend any more money until you get to the source of the issue.

If the shop you're taking it to is getting paid to replace an amp, they're not gonna fix your phone problem because it's not in scope for them.

Fix the root issue first, either yourself or pay someone to fix *that* problem.

Then you can monkey around with amps and rewire jobs.

This was to correct the original buzzing issue from the recurve. Only problem is now I have a new issue after they replaced all the wiring.

Is there a chance something screwed up my head unit? I ask because I need to start looking at solutions here quickly. Unfortunately I’m not the best with electronics so I’m a bit at the mercy of this shop right now so I’m feeling a bit helpless. Not to mention all the time it’s taking from dropping off car etc.

I'd try a factory reset on your head unit, remove the bluetooth/carplay association in the phone, then perform a hard reboot of your phone. A lot of problems can be resolved simply by doing this. Under the HU audio source settings for bluetooth make sure the call audio volume level is sufficient as well as mic volume. (I had a similar issue with a BOSS 800ACP HU w/ call audio being low | this was corrected by following the above steps) If all that doesn't solve the issue then it's most likely a wired connection issue. Do you have a SWC interface such as a maestro or pac unit? The mic connects to the aftermarket head unit via an 1/8" jack typically. You may find things work better when you run all ground wires to the same solid bare metal chassis grounding point. This eliminates the vehicle side harness as a grounding issue.
