The wind messed up my door

So, I was opening my front driver door the other night when a 40mph gust of wind caught it and through it open almost hyper-extending it. Visually, you would never know anything happened. However, when the door is shut, the glass will go down only about two thirds of the way down. when the door is fully open, the glass goes all of the way down. If the glass is down and I shut the door, then try to bring it up, I can hear it sort of grinding on something (I am assuming that it is the door check.

I removed the door panel and speaker to peek inside. The "door check" has a little hook looking thing on the backside, which "grabbed" the metal glass channel (or "run") and pulled (read BENT) it toward the right (direction of middle of vehicle). I know that I have to replace the door check, but I'm not sure about the glass run. Has anyone ever had to replace the "glass run" before? Is it welded at any place? I can see a couple of bolts up there, but not sure about spot welds. Any advice is helpful.

The only thing i can think of is open your passenger door and compare the setup for the windows. I'm assuming the setup should be similar. Should help you figure out what might have come out of place or been damaged. That's what i would try.

Don't know about the t4r in particular but many cars have a removable window regulator. It usually integrates the motor, the glass lift and the track for the window to slide up and down in. You have to remove the door card and the window glass and maybe a couple of other things (window controller, side airbag?), then you can remove the regulator from the door shell.

Actually, they are. In the cars I'm familiar with (Porsche, Mercedes, BMW for example) the side airbags are often mounted in the door. Sometimes, they're in the A-pillars, the roof (in the case of side-curtain airbags), the side of the seat, etc.

Like I said, I'm not sure what the setup is for the T4R but better safe than sorry when it comes to airbags.

I don't remember if the newer BMWs and Mercedes have them in the doors still, but older ones from the late 80's through the 90's did actually have them in the doors.

These days most Side Impact Airbags are either in the seat, A-Pillars, B-Pillars, C-Pillars, Roof, and/or dash.

Just for the heck of it, I called my insurance company (State Farm) & told them what happened. They told me it was covered under my comprehensive coverage. So I was able to get it fixed by a local body shop with no out-of-pocket expense to me.
