My dog isn't vegan or vegetarian but I don't really give a crap if my neighbor wants to feed their dog a vegetarian diet. Dogs wouldn't normally eat dairy so the difference between veg and vegan is mostly mute.

Since most people feed their dogs processed food anyways it isn't as if that is actually healthier in any way than vegetables. Our dog is albino and has food allergies so she is on a venison and potato mix. No random meat scraps for her, even on BBQ chicken or Tri-tip night. The rashes, itching scratches followed by vet appointment aren't worth it. We adopted her at 2 yrs old so we don't know her full history just what makes her break out into skin rashes and what doesn't.

My Golden is exactly the same. Prescription venison and potato. At least it's cheaper thru chewy.com. They do actually contact your vet before they fill your order the first time. Poor guy can no longer have tri-tip bites but will be happy just to smell your breath when you eat it.

BTW I should add that our dog can and does eat all the fruits nuts and veggies scraps we give her but according the vet it is the different meats she reacts to.
 
I'm curious where the venison is coming from for the venison potato variety food.
I doubt it is wild so that means it is farm raised I'm thinking.
Haven't heard of operations that produce for pet or human consumption.
Know of operations for breeding stock for game ranch's which is a lucrative business, could be where the pet food supply is coming from, hhmmm.

Venison has little if any fat content.

it's scary, FDA has our back though, Lol.
I'm fortunate that I've been where I have raised my own beef and pork for decades.
Have been around dairy beef chicken hog operations that long also, FDA says it's all good but I wonder sometimes.
 
The venison and potato that our dog eats was recommended by the vet. Once we started using it our dog's allergies calmed down. When she eats meat (outside her dog food) she often starts scratching herself really bad, often drawing blood. I believe that it isn't uncommon to have this happen in dogs and that is why it is usually recommended to have consistent food.

Now just here me out ... I think this whole allergies thing is specific to only our dog and probably a combination of how she was raised on food and here genetics/biology. I often wonder if we had gotten her as a puppy (we got her at 2) and given her different types of meats maybe she would never have any issues. All I know is her diet as-is prevents more trips to the vet.

Can't say I am surprised... but it's usually about the money anyways.

Being on the forefront of a 30 billion dollar pet food industry... gotta find new ways to make a couple bucks to a new discerning clientele.

The woman who lives next door feeds her Frenchie a vegan diet. The dog looks depressed and emaciated most of the time and freaks the hell out when he smells meat cooking.

Well Baloo was fed a combination of different meats and vegies same as all my previous dogs. At 10 month he started getting really bad hives and scabs from them so the vet recommended either rabbit or venison only diet. Not even any treats. It's been just over a month and his skin is great, no rashes or anything. Its Hills prescription d/d. It mentions venison in the ingredients but if it's wild or farmed.

Isn't this actually tantamount to abuse? I thought dogs required meat in their diets for proper health.
