I have not been much around here, partly because I have seen nobody post much of anything. What have you all been up to?

I did not have a great or bad offroading 2022. Drove 24 new trails. Considering that day trips to new trails are no longer easy, that's not too bad. But I only drove 33 runs total which is disappointing. I had 71, 68, 62, and 58 runs during my first 4 years with the 4Runner. So 33 was a disappointment, largely due to a weak "fall season."

My setup remains the same as in my signature. I still have adjustable 8112s on a loosely defined order, but the fact is that I really do not need them and the cost is significant. I am plenty fast enough on the stiffer springs 6112s. But the desire to put that "final touch" remains.

My Mickey Thompsons are about to turn 3 years old in March, which is a record for me. Reduced on pavement driving in 2020-2 certainly helped but they are holding up well. I am not sure what the replacement will be as the Baja Boss is even heavier. So that will be an interesting decision. I picked up a brand new but sold as used Destination MT2 spare so that is an option. I am yet to have MTs and the lower weight is a plus.

I did painfully little in 2022, only a little bit out in central Michigan on a short camping trip. Had a buddy in a stock road tire Titan with me so I was leery of getting him dug into the miles of sugar sand out there.

On the plus side, went and got engaged in Maui and took a rental jeep around the back side of a volcano... so... does that count?

I really, really, hope to get some better stuff in 2023.

I'm about 90% sure I'm heading back the Drummond Island in July.
Would love to hit the off-road park a few times but hate running that solo.

With all the people in the overland/off road craze lately, it's making me insane that I can't seem to figure out where those people are meeting and coordinating. My fear is its mostly Facebook and I refuse to use that.

Yeah, no idea about groups. We are solo and have been solo since starting in 2010.

I really don't like to have to coordinate even with friends--unless I consider it a very challenging trail with serious damage potential.

If you do a lot of mud or deep sand, then, yeah, it is good to have a buddy.

We generally go further from town so we have been lucky to see close to no 4x4s and very few UTVs. Near town, it is crazy on a weekend.

And the offroading ignorance of the average UTV driver is something else.

I have a bit of fear of getting stuck remotely since it's always me, the lady and our kiddo, he's going to be 5, so it's becoming less and less of an issue. He's been on the trails since he was 2, so getting stuck remotely then felt much worse that now. Hell, he kept up with me and mommy hiking when he was barely 4 out in Shenandoah.

I agree about the coordination, it's just a pain in the ass. Especially here in the midwest, and then any place 'good' to go is hours away anyway.

I'd feel a bit better with a winch vs just the maxxtrax, but that hasn't stopped us before. The damn 10+ hour drive does though.

Taking out three newbies. We’ll stick to the greens and hit a few blues.
