tire choice for long highway and extreme offroad

So my son has a 2007 4Runner that needed tires last year. After pricing tires he liked...his wallet stopped him dead in his tracks. My tire dealer supplies MasterCraft tires, so he looked into that line and found the Courser CXT(E) tires that were, at least more affordable. He does Grouse hunting which will occasionally put him on logging roads, mud, slash, soupy conditions let alone snow and rain. There's a bit of road noise with these, but for him the trade off is safer in hunting conditions...volume on radio is his filter

I have been running Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires for years. I just put their new Duratrac RTs on my 2019. Initial impression is that they are even better than the previous series. Of course, I haven't had them in the snow, yet.

I get the standard P rating, not the LT tires.

My experience over the years.
Very little road noise.
Great in the snow.
Good in the rain.
Great dry handling (for what it is). Can be a little skittish in back if over inflated.
Does everything I need it to do off-road, but I'm not a serious off-roader.

Coming up on 13,000 miles, and I couldn't be happier with the tires. I haven't noticed the skittishness in the back. I'm not sure if that's the new generation of tire or the new generation of 4Runner. This is a 2019 Limited with the X-REAS suspension and this thing corners WAY better than by 2007 SR5.

We just had our first major snow, almost a foot on the ground and some of the roads have barely been touched. The 4Runner handled great.

I love my KM3's

I do a lot of highway, and when I get the chance to take it off road, I don't hold back. They are great in every way, and they balance out very well with no vibration or shake on the highway, even above 80mph.

I've had Cooper ST Maxx Pro, great offroad, bad on road E rated
BFGk02 C rated, great tire... that is until its about half worn that its like driving on ice in even light rain or wet. I would avoid
BFGK03 E rated, great tire, better by far than the K02.. better in wet. More comfortable. Only negative is in 265-70-17 only E at this time and not lighter C

OP, what kind of trails are you running where you need MT? K02 have been fine up to 6/10 rated trails for me.

I also have E KO2 tires. I specifically got the E rated ones because I do some really difficult trails on the Alpine Loop in Western Colorado (Silverton, Ouray, Telluride) where the rocks are sharp granite, not sandstone, like around Moab.

I have done everything in that area except for Black Bear, and Poughkeepsie. I think the E KO2 would be fine on those trails as well; my limiting factor is my bravery.

Where the MT would be better would be in deep mud. Don't really have that in Colorado/Utah.
