I have an 04' 4Runner with 72,000 miles. I went to www.kbb.com and it gives me a trade in value of $8,000 while www.edmunds.com gives a value of $12,000. Anybody with a recent experience of trading in their vihicle? If anyone is interested I live in Southern California and it's color is gold. Very good shape including an aftermarket Alpine stereo with subwoofer.

Suv resale is in the tank. Speaking of the tank: If you can wait another month or two people will less 'afraid' as fuel continues to get cheaper. That will help the value. 8k or 12K? I am not sure, it's probably between the two but local markets vary so much it's hard to know.

Did you happen to check the retail and private party values though too? I think you'd be suprised at the gap between the two. Dealerships are practically stealing SUV's from owners via trade-in values, but they're not really discounting them on the lots. Sure, they're down maybe a grand on the lots, but they're down maybe $4 or $5 grand on the trade-in value.

I have an 04 SE V8 and I just priced mine out at around $16500 for "outstanding" and $15,500 for "good" on edmunds.com. Thats with 80,000 miles.
Are you sure you did it right on their websites? SUVs have taken a hit, but the 4runner is a little more unique than say a Ford Explorer. The reliability for one and the fact that it is actually an offroading SUV means there should still be some sort of market for it.

2003/2004 were the "getting the bugs worked out years" for the 4th gen. lot of changes and up-dates. If you like that body style 2005 is the year.
Why ?
4speed trans , no side air bags (rare option on sr5)
Outdated V-8 and many small changes and updates.
With All SUV's resale in the tank ,For the same price
would a smart buyer want a 03/04 or a 05 and up ?

I have an 04 SE V8. It was a stretch to get the dealer to get over $8K. I passed. 87K miles, clean, garaged, non smoker, new brakes. I have also had very little activity from Autotrader and Craigslist. I'm listed at $11,999 in both of those. Good Luck
