Trail Edition Crossbars..Parts Problem

I was recently in the market for a new surf board and wanted to buy cross bars for my 2010 Trail 4Runner.

I ordered some from a seller on Amazon, stated they were for the Trail Edition, but when I received them, they didn't come with a 'sliding h-block" which actually mounts them to the factory roof rails.

Strike 1:mmph:

Ordered a set of the SR5/Limited cross bars, figured I could find a way to make them work. They DO come with the sliding mounts to place in the roof rails. But the cross bars lengths were off and couldn't be used.

Strike 2 :mmph:

Went to the local dealer and told them my trouble. They called me the next day and said they have the parts ready and I can pick-up. Cost $140.. I head to the dealership and open the package there. Trail Crossbars....only.

Rehash my problem with the dealer. They call Toyota and Toyota states h-blocks for Trail Edition NOT a replaceable part. I need to buy new roof rails to get the parts...

I send an email to HQ Toyota...they simply state what the dealership told me. I have to buy new roof rails to replace the dinky $15 parts that mounts the cross bars to the truck...

Sooooo.. Really pretty upset with Toyota. My truck did not come with the h-blocks, yet I have to spend hundreds more to replace perfectly good roof rails...

But, I think I can use the ends from the SR5/Limited, attach to the Trail cross bars (with a little ingenuity) and make it work.

Or I will buy a GOBI or Yakima. I don't want aftermarket cross bars as they all sit on top of the roof rails and add even more height to the truck and I am limited in my condos parking garage.

So just wanted to let people know, if your Trail didn't come with the sliding h-blocks on the factory roof rails; you are out of luck..

I did have contact with someone here, had an initial reply back but I was not the first inquiry about their cross bars.

I am pretty confident I can work with the SR5 ends and Trail cross bars to make it work.

It's a weekend project :becky:
 
Sounds good, make sure to post pictures if you are successful. There was another remember on here awhile ago complaining about the same exact problem because he accidentally snapped one of the ends. Good luck!
 
In my experience the blocks have been worthless...they hold force in the wrong direction. Lost some wood on the highway for not figuring it out before taking off. Ended up strapping the wood down against my instincts to get it home.

If I wasn't focussing on debt now...I'd buy a gobi just to send you the blocks.

Most TE owners probably didn't realize what the blocks were and threw them away or threw them in the corner of the garage when they got their trucks.
 
What are the "blocks?"

Your TE should have come with cross bars. If you bought it new, I would be making a stink with the dealership you bought it from, if possible.
 
Yakima does not have a cross bar system that will fit the trails rails as of yet. I use one on my 2008 and it will not fit the rails on the 2013. Called yakima and they confirmed the old one will not fit but they are working on it.
 
Upgrade to a Yakima or Thule setup. The stock crossbars are crap and tend to work loose over time. I almost lost a standup paddleboard on a road trip because the screws backed out.
 
Again yakima railgrabs that fit my old 2008 will not, repeat will not fit the 2013 trail addition rails, as the trail rail shape is entirely different from the sr-5 or limited. I have a pair sitting in my garage waiting on word from yakima when the rail grabs for the trail will be available.
What they do have and will fit is their direct bolt on rail system, which I do not want, I like the look of the factory rails.

Do you mean Yakima is coming out with something will slide into the TE rail system like the OEM cross bars do?
 
No they will fit on the original rails and put the round bar on top of the side rails.
Not a big fan of the round bars cause the will rust from the inside out, here in a heavy salt environment, another reason I won't go to a Gobi.....wish I could find a custom rack made from aluminum that bolted to the trucks roof..
 
Hey brother, if you're talking about part no 401863, the four blocks that you can use as tie downs on the factory trail roof rack I have an extra set I can send for no cost. I'm on my second Trail. When I traded the first one (2010) on a BMW (long story) I kept the accessories thanks to a complete lack of organization. The bottom line is the part number is the same as on my 2012 and I can't imagine its any different for you. PM me your address and I'll get them in the mail. Easy.
