I am so angry at Toyota. We've owned 2 4Runners during the past 16 years. The 1990 was fine. IT went throught the usual consumables, clutch plates, brake pads/shoes, tires and after ~170,000 miles it was put to rest after getting rear-ended by of all things a tow-truck.
The 2000 SR5 has been a different story. Antenna motor, clutch pedal assembly and roof rack all warrantied. Then in October it really p!ssed me off. With 74,000 miles of city and highway use a bearing in the transmission developed a squeek loud enough to be heard. Diagnosis at the local Toyota dealer revealed it needed a new Transmission AND Clutch.
WHY?
I called Toyota USA and was told "too bad, it's out of warranty"
Fine, I'll pay for the work/parts but don't expect me to be happy.
Then, 1,200 miles later (last week) a loud clicking developes. Again, the local Toyota Dealer diagnoses a bad rear differential. After dissasembly the obvious lack of teeth on the gear sends me over the edge.
Every step of the way, on both 4Runners, we've had a Toyota Dealer perform the services and routine maintanence. Every fluid change, every milage interval as recommended by Toyota we faithfully paid to have "qualified technicians" perform the upkeep on them.
Now I see Tundra ads and the "Toyota never lets me down" ads...
What a crock of sh!t.
I've never wanted to burn my own car but I'm sorely tempted.
Should any passenger vehicle need the entire drivetrain replaced after ~75,000 miles of use?
I'm tryng to write a letter to Toyota USA without sounding like I'm insane with anger but it's really difficult.
I'll never buy a Toyota again.
