Transmission question. How Effed am I?

So I was changing the oil on my truck yesterday and I saw this thing kinda hanging there. Its real greasy down here boys and girls.
So what is this, how does it get back on.
Oh yah, and how Effed am I?

that's the clutch fork boot.
that one is oil soaked and trashed. buy a new one. they are easily replaced. all from outside the transmission.

So with this ripped, does this expose the gears and flying greasy everywhere?
Guess I have a project this weekend.

The oil is from some place else, probably a valve cover leak dripping down the back of the engine or something similar. That boot is a dust cover for the clutch mechanism, but there should be no oil inside there unless a transmission front seal or the engine rear seal is leaking.

no. it doesn't really expose anything that matters. its only a dust boot.

though, it will keep mud and other crap from getting into the bellhousing, and potentially under the clutch if you get into a deep enough hole. well, it will slow it down. if its under the water long enough, it will get in. as this is not a water tight seal.


looking at the picture again, you may be able to salvage that boot. degrease it well, if its not swollen, or torn it may be fine.


like ron said, like that oil is coming from somewhere else on the engine.

Isn't that the clutch slave cylinder, ?? could the oil be hyd fluid leaking out of the cylinder.

Has your clutch master cylinder been using fluid or is it almost empty.

The truck over shifts rather well. It just turned over to 225k, so I guess I can't complain.
Sometimes it's a lil hard to find 4th gear, or I will double clutch here and there for smoother shifts. I know I got my master cylinder replaced a couple years ago. I was driving around town then all the sudden, I couldn't shift.


About the oil, this thing has been dripping for the past five years I have e owned it. From where, I really have no idea.

I just moved back to my parents house (yahoo I graduated from college haha) so I am starting to "go through" the truck.
