TRD Off Road vs Premium

I like the softex seats because they are so easy to clean, and they keep very clean as well. Mine is a 2015, despite all the moving, outdoors stuff, and using the rear seat as a work bench for feeding homeless cats, thus food and stuff spills everywhere, the things look perfect and clean up very easily.

Got mine in October 2014, so over six years old now, seats look perfect. Those alone I would get a premium if only offered with such.
 
Yes, worth it for the ORP over OR, we love ours.

However, we lifted it and the KDSS lean sucks. Personally it isn't worth getting KDSS and we wished we had gotten the regular ORP instead.

Also, Softex is nice with two dogs. Stupid easy to clean.
 
It's a personal choice. I love the softex and moonroof. I'm also taller and have no issues with headroom. I have a black on black so the extra light allowed in by the moonroof is a welcome.

But a big part for me and why I also went with a 2020 was the smart key and push button start. Last 4 vehicles had the same feature and I love the convenience of not having to fish it out of my pockets. The only way i'd go back to a normal key is if i bought an old school 4runner or land cruiser as a 2nd vehicle.

I've never had a Toyota sunroof leak. Not sure if it's specific to someone parking outside under the wrong type of tree or something? My last 4Runner at 220k miles never leaked. My current at 6 years and about 60k miles hasn't leaked. None of my lexus vehicles have ever had a leaky sunroof. So I'm not sure if this is a real problem or just one person with bad luck. A sunroof wasn't high on my priority list when I bought the 4runner. But It hasn't been an issue and it's nice to have sometimes.

As far as seat material - I'd buy softex again. It's super easy to clean and more durable than leather. I'd take it over leather and cloth if they were all the same price for a vehicle like a 4Runner. After 6 years there's no visible signs of wear at all. Toyota's cloth is usually pretty durable too. All leather in every vehicle I've seen breaks down over time no matter how you treat it. So if you want to keep it for the vehicle's life - I'd go with either cloth or softex.

Our 2002 Sequoia sunroof leaked like a sieve.

Also was generally problematic. Drains were all clear and mechanism was lubed.

In the end, the only thing that fixed it was taking 2 days to rip out the whole interior, headliner, etc and replace the entire sunroof unit, rails and all, with one I bought at a junkyard. Never leaked again.

An 18 year old sunroof that leaked....who could image such a thing

1 purchased my 2020 Off Road Premium without a sunroof. Had to have the dealer locate one for me as they said only about 4% of the premiums in Magnetic Grey were built without the sunroof. Took about 4 weeks to get in....dealer had to trade for it with another dealer. Not only have I always had sunroofs leak, but the sunroof eats into headroom. I'm 6'3" long torso so my head would rub the roof in sunroof models. Of course the wife and daughter have a Highlander and RAV4 with sunroofs and we've never had an issue on those cars.
 
In 2018, it took me forever to locate a super white TRD ORP with no sunroof and no KDSS.

To be honest, I wanted the softex for the cool TRD logos in the headrest. At the time, it was a pro without Bilsteins or a US makeover.

My dealer also searched for a 2019 ORP NO sunroof for me. Have never been a fan of them. I opted for Nautical Blue WITH KDSS. They found one in Chicago about 250 miles away.

Like the Softex seats. The heaters get pretty warm, quickly. I'm always cold, so I love the heated seats.

I never had any issues with VW build quality. They used to have the best rust/corrosion warranty in the business (unlike Toyota), and still have one of the best. My TDI's were built like tanks - none had sunroofs though :D.

TDIs are good and theres a reason people like them. We leased an Atlas without a sunroof. Had no clue all the sunroofs leaked on them until talking to a VW mechanic recently. I actually like it a lot and its huge inside. Great for the family. However, I'm not going to buy it for reliability reasons.

Yeah I've heard that about the Atlas. It was built with an affordable price point in mind. Even some of the newer cars feel cheap, especially the Jetta.
