whats wrong with your factory Elocker? truetracs are nice, but they are not a locker, they are a limited slip and would best be used in the front imo cause they will allow for the give and potentially prevent breaking a CV where a locker up front would not. i know you are talking about the rear so in your case a truetrac would work ok as long as you keep both rear tires on the ground but as soon as one picks up you will lose traction. they are not selectable like the Elocker and so you will not enjoy the benefits of the locker i say keep your locker

i think it sucks, if your opening up the diff to swap something in do it right, a arb locker isn't going to be much more then that and if you doing it might as well do it right, lsd's aren't ideal imo, as you have no control, they CAN be noisy, and are really just not as robust a real locker. i would say maybe chuck one in your front diff if you already have a rear locker....

may i ask whats wrong with your stocker locker?

this is why i want change my elocker :

I have not find any elocker (7.5", 4.56 gear)... this is why i'm locking for a alternate locker... Im leaving in Québec, Canada and the winter is really rought (salt, water, snow).

truetracs are not noisy and dong give you that ratcheting feel or sound they are super smooth and dont have clutches to wear out... probably the best lsd ever made... just any fyi

yeah i know i said CAN in caps to show that some of them can be like that, not all of them but some, and i have heard noisy tru trac installs as well on some xj's, don't know much about our runners though.

dam that's harsh....yeah you need something thats for sure, arb does make lockers that are a direct bolt on for our trucks so finding the right gearing shouldn't be an issue in that sense. that said, you can always keep an eye out for a used 3rd member which is an easier install and might be a bit cheaper, since you alread have everything wired up for an e-locker that might be a good way to go, i know of a few companies that will sell you used 3rds, i can check around for you if you like, that said if you have no other choice then go with the lsd, as a lsd is better then nothing at all, but like the kid said you loose contact with one wheel your SOL. really summers not quite over yet give yourself a bit longer if you can to pull the money together and get it done right as opposed to right now.

so yeah, i would say nothing wrong with an lsd, but not as good as whats there already and you can possibly find a proper locker solution for a couple hundred more then the lsd your looking at. i think arb is still throwing in the aircompressor for free.:girl:

I think you have more issues than just a bad locker... How is the rust on the rest of your axle look? It may be better to just replace the whole axle. Check out my build thread for my axle/rust woes. You could be close to a leaky housing. It might be easier to find a whole axle assembly with diff than just the diff (it was for me).

Also, that is a 8" diff. 7.5 is the front. And have you checked the ratio yourself via the spin test or counting gears? 4.56 wasn't that common, but several pages online tell you 4.56 incorrectly based on VIN or features.

Im pretty sure about the rest of the axle. it just leak because i don't have elocker.....

You should inspect the rest of the axle housing well to make sure, rust holes in the housing are fairly common in the salt-use areas (I am not far from you). The best thing would be to take an angle grinder with twisted wire wheel to the housing to clean it off (just over diff area as it's the thinnest) and check for pinholes.

As for the axle info, that site is most definitely wrong. I have the same axle code as you, and I know that I have a 4.3. You probably have a 4.3 too. Read this thread

This topic has come up many times, so searching will definitely net you alot of info. My source for knowing that the tables are wrong is experience, I have A04A like you, and I know what diff I have (because I have replaced it). Others have experienced the same thing.

The closest thing to a rule we have found is assume you have a 4.1 unless you have a locked automatic, then it's 4.3. Don't remember where 4.56 comes from, but it's rare. Either way, do the spin test before you spend any money, plain and simple.

Plenty of valuable advice on this forum.

IMHO I think it's a great idea as long as you arn't rockcrawling. I have the TruTrac in the back of my 4runner. It was a great improvment over the stock open diff. It is TOTALLY un-noticable on the street. I can't spin a tire on the dirt or street. I couldn't not be happier with mine. I like the fact that it is "on" all the time. I drive in the ice and snow too and it is perfecto! I found a slightly used one on yotatech for $300 shipped.

The main concern is finding a qualifed person to do the install.

I personally would never put on in a truck I plan on wheeling. On snow and ice is one thing, but that are worthless in the rocks, However if you just wheel moderate stuff im sure you will like it

I'll just assume that moderate stuff is white and called snow.

Well, the issue is if one of the wheels comes off the ground, the limited slip will allow it to spin, thus defeating the purpose.

You can think for yourself how that would affect you for what you want to do with it.
