Gun ownership isn't a privilege that can be casually revoked by a liberal majority though......it's a Constitutional RIGHT! In fact, the second one written to show the import of it's content. One could say freedom of speech causes ''strife'' for some folks so maybe it's in need of more controls and restrictions. Even if EVERY offensive thought can't be blocked from the public domain.......if SOME of it can be censored it's worth it! Do you see how absurd that is?!:der:
The same folks trying to dismantle 2A are trying the same with 1A also. Most of the BOR has been under attack for quite some time.
The very reason why the Constitution and Bill of Rights exists is because the founders of this country recognized that there will always be Goverments no matter how well intended who always seek to undermine those basic principles with the intent to have greater control over the general populace.
Most folks these days are willing to give up their rights for the false promise of safety and protection. Blind or dissident to the fact that safety is an illusion promised to subjugate the weak into compliance and servitude.
Those who believe anyone else but themselves is or can be in charge of their own safety is fooling themselves.
What some people believe to be "common sense" is absolutely delusional to me and I'm sure it's vice versa.
That's the beauty of living in a country with the individual Liberty and Freedom it was founded upon. We get to do what WE believe is right as individuals.
It's a complex problem, violence is. We should focus on logical solutions where the very Rights this country was founded upon aren't destroyed and implement legislation that actually may have a positive impact on the issue.
Mental illness absolutely needs to be meaningfully addressed and people who commit crimes with guns need to be punished severely.
A good start would be eliminating the war on drugs that has fueled the illicit drug trade and the gang violence.
If the laws already on the books were followed and DA's and judges didn't reduce sentences it would have a meaningful impact.
Knee jerk emotional reactions to complex problems will not solve anything.
I know we can come together as a society and pass mutually agreeable legislation that doesn't erode the rights of anyone and makes a positive impact on the real issue.
