Ran across this YouTube video showing how gear oil is circulated and dispersed inside a rear differential. Pretty interesting.

Gale is doing a whole series on aftermarket diff covers, looks like he's gearing up to sell Banks branded dif covers.
There are 3 or 4 in the series so far.

The amount of time and research he's put into these video series, I would definitely buy a diff cover from BANKS.

My take on all of the research was the factory curved steel cover does a fine job of lubricating, and from life long experience towing usually rear ends get neglected and abused, but have a low failure rate.
Street trucks and tow rigs, Mainly what he is testing
Fluids rarely get changed at proper intervals and they seem to survive.
So unless his cover drastically lowers temps, or signifyingly adds HP, My DMAX will continue to run the stock cover.
at 100K it shows no sign of heat, wear or other abuse.
For me it confirmed in stock form my rear end will live many more miles.
But it is good research.
