Weather-proofing the rear in a 1986

I'm looking at doing the Jeep soft top/bikini mod. It doesnt cover the whole back. Any suggestions on how to weather proof the rear as best as possible?

hey MT tatman can u post a side view picture??? i just painted my 4runner today and im considering painting the tops sides of the bed with bed liner so the top wont ruin the paint going on and off. i havnt seen what it looks like with just that painted

If you are gonna do that do not use the spray can stuff. It will flake off. Have it done by a pro. I had a local rhino lining company do it about 5 years ago and i like it a lot. Its just a thin layer and they sprayed it on smooth.

Here is a sort-of side view. I really did my prep work before spraying the bed liner to insure the best adhesion, but if you can afford the real Rhino-lining, I am sure it will be sturdy. I just figure it is easy enough to touch-up the home spray stuff if it scratches. Heck, I would hate to drive a 4runner with no scratches anyway!!:cheers:

I'm doin the same to mine. Did u take out the rear window and wiper motor? I won't need I with the soft top and its just added weight.
