One of the most common steering part that's replaced for fixing most steering issues is the steering intermediate shaft #2 which has the lower u-joint on it and connects to the rack and pinion assembly, this is the shaft you see in the engine compartment.
It's the most common cause of stiff steering.
It's pictured in the first post in the following topic.

Definitely doing a flush. The rack and pinion should come with inner tie rods.Powe steering fluid flush. Inner tie rods.
Mine has 170k and I have noticed various clunks and other noises coming from steering/suspension components after my lift. I figured I'd drop a grand or so on replacing worn out parts and ride her for another 100k.Yeah, I'm on the fence about what parts to replace now. I'm in need of an alignment anyway so now's the time to do the work. I added some "new to me" Tacoma TRD shocks/springs and rear FJ springs a few months back for a bit of lift.
I've been looking around for some "new" upper control arms from a 5th Gen or Tacoma. I believe these are a direct replacement and often a swapped out item for those going with a big lift straight off the dealership lot. Swapping the whole arm sounds like a much better option than trying to fight with pressing out that ball joint.
I'm thinking lower ball joints are probably on the way out too but I'm not sure what other parts are good to replace "just in case" on a truck with 140K.
Turns out it will cost substantially more than a grand. Last night I priced jba uppers, Moog lcas, rack and pinion, outer tie rods, sway bar end links and bushings front and rear, and new cam bolts and my total was about $1600 through rock auto. Mechanic said he would charge $1400 to install it all. So I'd be in it for 3k.Mine has 170k and I have noticed various clunks and other noises coming from steering/suspension components after my lift. I'll try once I can get to a computerMind sharing that parts list if it's something you can copy/paste? If you copy/paste from your cart in RockAuto, it's kind of ugly, but still, it has all the part numbers....
Ball joints are shot, as are all bushings. Rack has a slow leak. I wouldn't replace parts if it wasn't warranted. That's a lot of money to spend to fix something that isn't broken.
Love to see that list too. Planning on a mild lift and maybe a steering refresh at some point and need to start building my list!
