What lugs are you running for aftermarket wheels?

Most wheels are offered with kits that match/fit. Almost every wheel brand/model is going to be different.

Gorilla spline drives,they're fairly narrow so there's no worry about scratching the lug holes with the socket. I've been running the same set on a Tundra for over 10 years. The black finish faded slightly but even with the snow melting crap they use in my area they haven't really rusted,I apply a light coat of WD40 or Fluid Film on them just to be on the safe side.

Yeah back in the day we used to get all kinds of things included and even thrown in because it was the right thing to do. Now they charge your another $50 bucks for a set with one "key", so they can make more to cover their increasing costs.
I am super glad you were able to help him with the correct kid. It could have ended very expensively if he had used just what ever set they had in stock....would have been a big problem down the road.

I plan on getting a backup lock key as it would be the suck to have that break out and away from civilization when you need it.
These replaced the skinnier spline lugs that were on before.

I can tell you right now that it doesn't matter if you run lug nuts that require special socket or not. You hammer on a smaller size socket and that lug nut is coming of. It's not theif proof. Speaking from experience.
Anyways I have eBay STEEL lug nuts. Don't think about running aluminum!!!!!

Definitely not. Especially when most people run the "key" inside of their rigs in either their center console or their glovebox. It is a bit of a deterrent as it's just another step that some may not be willing to take. But if someone wants your wheels enough, they'll get them.

Yeah, I don't really think I would have bothered with the locks and did not request them, but offered to replace my lugs when I noticed that they cross threaded a lug on my rig. It snapped off the lug and I became uneasy about special lugs. I would not have picked these but it was better than the spline lugs I had. I might just get rid of the the locks altogether for the sake of simplicity. I don't have super fancy pant wheels or anything, but you're both right. If someone wants your stuff enough, well... that's that.
That's why I plan to fill any gaps around the lugs with JB weld. Ha! That'll show em!
Yes and no. I had one of those fancy locks lug nuts. I lost the key. Hammered on a smaller socket. Lug nut came right of. But yes, it might make a thief skip that car.
