What should it cost to repaint a hood (Not sure where to post this)

I called to get a quote on having my hood repainted on my 3rd gen T4R due to some clear coat failure and was quoted ~$450. Does this seem about right?

I was kind of shocked to hear that price for just the hood. The color is Anthracite(1A1) if that matters.

i got a job done a a small body shop near me for $250. all the other dealers quoted me $350-$450. since its a lighter color id color match.

I am thinking of having some paint work done to mine but very worried what it will cost.

Mine is an 98 Black and is mostly in good shape. However in one corner on the roof a bit of the clear coat is coming up. Also on the back of the hatch it looked like some paint got rubbed away. Perhaps by a rope holding the hatch down. Also got minor scuffs in 2 spots on the roof possibly from a roof rack. Last but not least the forward part of the hood could use a sand and respray because of some rock chips. Nothing serious but getting these minor items fixed and the paint would be perfect.

Back in the old days (actually not that long ago) you could get minor stuff like this repaired for $100 to $150. Now days they seem to want $500 minimum and it quickly skyrockets from there.

I have not stopped by any body shops for a bid since they are slammed from the winter weather wrecks. However I plan to do it in the spring sometime.

Another option is to call one of those mobile dent repair and scratch specialist. Someone hit my mirror on my brand new car a few years ago and put a nasty scrape in it. I thought I was going to have to replace and the mirror. However he came to my house and said no problem. He sanded it down then filled in the deep scratches with some epoxy like material. He then mixed some paint in his van and then air brushed it on. The car was a metallic gold so difficult to match but it turned out perfect. After he was done you could never tell it got hit. Total charge was $90. I imagine one of these guys could fix everything on my 4runner and charge less. Except for the hood.
