Yeah, I too was disappointed when I saw the OEM replacement price...$200!
I'm looking at some aftermarket options. I found a grille on eBay here:
For 2006-2009 4Runner Limited / 08-09 4Runner Sr5 Off Road Package Grille Black | eBay
In looking at the parts breakdown, there's a couple different parts listed. There's the grille itself plus a seal of some sort, number 3.
My question is, if I buy an aftermarket grille, do I need to order that piece separately or is the original seal generally in good shape?

The eventual outcome of plastic that's been chromed.
I think almost all chromed plastic ends up like this because while the chrome is a thin later of metal; it's placed on a substrate that has more expansion/flex than the metal and eventually it delaminates and causes bubbles.
At least that's my theory since it seems to be what happens to anything plastic that's been chromed (true chrome, not a sticker/paint)

unless that was aftermarket, i would shell out 150 for the color match limited grill. and save the original as a mod for the satoshi look. i still have my original too, after i swapped it out for the limited color match.

I may just order a matte black version.
Older thread, but here's another wrinkled bubbling chrome (smoked) grill, from an 07 that was garage kept since new. Very strange looking isn't it? Since it's already messed up, until a new color matched grill arrives, a Dino was glued on this gas guzzling V8.

replaced our grill last winter after a -20 degree day. Was a little warped before that but then after the cold blast whole thing crinkeled.

That was an experience I had as well with a F350 King Ranch. After 15 years of looking good. One day from the garage to left out overnight in a -15 degree night and it delaminated. I agree, a issue with how the rate of various materials shrink & expand.

Yes, I see that the original post was from 2016, but just did the OEM grille replacement myself this week. Gone with the chrome grille and replaced with a black 202 color grille.
When you order grille-part #1 on the diagram-both #4- the logo and #3-the 'insulator' come with it. You do not need to order a replacement rubber trim insulator for the grille's top edge as it will already be installed for you. As will be the chrome logo.
