Whats the deal with toothed shovels???

Does not make sense to me.
Have all the farmers and landscapers for last thousand years been doing it all wrong. No matter if you are digging a tire out, or planting a tree, you want a tool that is as efficient as possible. A regular shovels leading edge is alot shorter than a tooth shovel, I would think a toothed shovel would take more effort to push into the dirt (all things being equal)

Supposed to cut through roots and hard soil easier. Idk, never tried one myself.

We use them for rooty, viney trail clearing. They tend to cut down without slipping sideways like a regular shovel does when it hits a root. Not for rocky soil at all though, and not very efficient for digging in sandy soil. I think there is also the "tacticool" thing going on as well.
