Yeah, I loved Buzzsaw back in its day. It was definitely better then than now as Ozzy's Boneyard. It's unfortunate they booted Eddie Trunk off and transferred him to Hair Nation "Butt Rock" station.
Yeah. Hair Nation actually used to be pretty good, too. But the good folks at SiriusXM have apparently forgotten that "Hair" metal essentially came in two waves - the good followed by the
exceedingly-bad (my opinion, of course).
First it was fairly hard-rocking bands like Motley Crue, WASP and Dokken. But the second wave was mainly copycat bands trying to be like the first group so they could cash in - Poison and Warrant, and some other pure crap like Nelson and Europe. Coupla bright spots in that later era, like Jake E. Lee's Badlands, and some bar-band stalwarts who never really hit it big, like Kix and Rhino Bucket, but generally the second wave sucked, IMO.
To me, Hair Nation tends to focus way too much on the second half, and even when they play stuff from the first era, it's always the biggest selling "hits" that have already been played to death.
After you started this thread, I clicked on the BY yesterday for the first time in a looong time. I made it through about 5 songs, 3 of them by Cheap Trick, Led Zeppelin and Rush, plus the gratuitous, "must-play-20-times-a-day" Ozzy and Black Sabbath before I went back to my Ipod.
Don't get me wrong - those are all good bands, but not really "hard" rock, IMO - not any more. More like "Classic" rock, to me. That channel used to be a steady diet of Slayer, Anthrax, Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, with a sprinkling of songs from Accept, Raven, S.O.D., Diamond Head, Laaz Rockit, Y&T, and Exodus. They may still play those bands, but not with
nearly the same frequency they used to. Not when you apparently HAVE to hear Ozzy and Sabbath as often as they get played (interestingly, they don't give nearly as much air to Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio, even though many people consider
Heaven and Hell to be one of the best BS albums ever recorded).
And for me, I don't have the patience to wade through bands like Bon Jovi, Autograph and Night Ranger (??) to get to those good songs (again, good enough bands, but wrong station)
If I could get Pandora in my truck, I'd probably trash satellite radio altogether. I have a couple of stations I've set up that I listen to when at home and have discovered some very cool "newer" (to me, anyway) bands like Sugar Red Drive, Nitro Tokyo, and Havok. Also some others which, though they really aren't breaking any new ground, play the 'style' of music I like, such as Bullet, Broken Teeth and Airbourne. Mainly, I think I keep satellite to avoid boredom on long drives, since I work out of my truck - comedy and sports, mainly.
Sorry for the rant - I just love my music!
