Hello everyone, proud owner of a 2001 4Runner 4WD here. A little back story. I bought my 4Runner back in September after a semi truck side swiped my Toyota Camry. I knew I wanted another reliable Toyota and something 4 wheel drive so that's how I ended up here! I originally bought it as a daily driver to get to and from work, but soon after I started buying parts for it and now I can't stop. So you know, might as well start a build thread :shrug: I would like to see my builds progress and get input from you guys as well.
It is my daily so it's 99% pavement 1% offroad. I also own a Corvette that I spend copious amounts of money on, and will be getting a turbo soon, hence the reason for the Runner being a budget build. Anyways let's get started.

Here it is the day I picked it up. I didn't take any pictures of it stock so these are the ones from the craigslist ad.

First thing I did was buy some D windows and plastidip the bumpers and flares.

Then the fiancée got me a roof basket and my parents got me a light bar for Christmas.

I did the early 3rd gen half bumper conversion

Then wooooo lift time :usa2:
99 moog coils and 1" daystar spacers. It sees mostly pavement so not to concerned about the spacers. Lift came out to 37" from ground to fender on 265/70/16s.

To finally make everything come together I bought some Kenda Klever M/T tires in 265/75/16. :rockon:

Then I disconnected my front sway bar links and installed them on the rear sway bar for MOAR FLEX.

So that's it for now! I'm leaving for a trip to Big Bend on Friday so I'm going to somehow try and get a radiator skid plate before then, for some reason the previous owner removed it.

More info on that bumper mod, please. Mine is also a budget build and that looks like it would hold me over until I am ready to drop the coin on bumpers!

Basically you just remove the bottom fascia of the bumper. Imo the early 1996-1998 3rd gen bumper (pre fat lip bumper) looks the best and is the most functional because you can keep your turn signals.

If you are doing a conversion I will post all the parts you need, although it's cheaper to just pull it off a wrecked or salvaged 4Runner. I got mine for $50.

Thanks for the info, mine is actually a 1998 so I should be good to go. Is there cutting involved or does the bottom fascia just unbolt?

Yep you are good. But yea it just unbolts, although the fender liner will need to be trimmed with a razor or knife as it will be the length of stock bumper.

Guessing you got mounts welded on for those D rings? such a good look for still retaining the stock bumper

Yep! Bought some eBay mounts and had them welded to the frame. They fit perfectly with the bumper too when used as a lift point.

Just got back from big bend national park. Trip was amazing. Got to take the rig down some trails, didn't get to do the black gap though, next time! Picked up a radiator skid from Shrockworks before I left, cool group of guys that work there, nice quality on the skid plate as well.
This 1,600 mile round trip wasn't without problems though. On the way my radiator cap gave out spewing coolant all over my engine bay. Then on the way home my gas gauge got stuck at 1/3 leaving me to fill up on the side of the road from my Jerry can, and last but not least my o2 sensor blew off on the highway. Needless to say this is a trip I won't forgot!
