Ottawa area 4Runner servicing?
Greetings,
I'm in Ottawa and hope to be a 4Runner owner in the very near future. It will likely be an older 4th gen, so I'm looking for recommendations on local shops for regular servicing and possibly assistance on potential mods. Grateful for any ideas.
Cheers.

If there are no recommendations for independent mechanics, can anyone comment on the service at the stealerships? I have to say that I have not been impressed with the sales staff at Tony Graham, which makes me worry about their Service Department....

Can't say I've been impressed by Belair toyota either - and they are the only choice in the east end - not enough Toyota dealers around to have proper choice and competion....
I ended up doing my own timing belt on my 2004 V8 4Runner and it wasn't too bad but if I'm stuck with needing a repair in winter I want somebody I can go to.
I'm still looking for an independent mechanic - anybody else have one they can vouch for?
Mike

Mechanic
Hi, I'm in the Ottawa area as well and can't seem to find a somewhat dedicated 4Rnr mechanic. I have a 07 V6 Limited. I know everyone needs to make a buck but for the dealerships to charge an extra $20 to lube the propeller shaft (6 grease nipples I believe) when it's in for an oil change is gouging. I realize this post is about a year old but maybe you've had some luck??

No further ahead...
... so I'm back to my original post from a couple of years back. I've been going to Mendes Toyota for servicing and am not bowled over by it. Cool new facility, but service is perfunctory at best. As an example, at my last Spring servicing they put my summer tires on and didn't check their pressures, all were under-inflated and two were down by a third. With tire pressure sensors installed, I would have thought they would have cleared that up.... And as previous posters have indicated, the dealers charge for absolutely every little movement they perform. I may switch to Belair, but I'm not sure they'll be any better. Anyone in the Ottawa area have any suggestions?
R.

I bought my new Scion FR-S from Belair in the spring...great service. You pull up to the service center and the valet takes your car. At the time they were fixing something on warranty, everything was repaired without issue and they even washed my car. I've also had good luck with the parts dept. at Tony Graham eventhough their sales dept. is a joke.

Glad to hear Belair is decent...
... I'll probably switch to them shortly as it will be closer to my new office. As it is, I had to go back to Mendes this morning (only because it's close to my current office) for an extensive brake job which I can no longer put off...

DO NOT go to Belair Lexus Toyota on Montreal rd for service!!!!
Incredible corruption goin on at Belair and has been for years
I brought my 4th gen 4runner there to get serviced under warrantee, they claimed they changed both manifolds but I and anothe rmechanic discover many months later that they only changed one and still charged the warrantee company for both.
I wouldn't give Belair the time of day, EVER again.
I've heard many nightmare stories in relation to that place, just ask around.
There are many decent smaller garages around Ottawa (hard to find good mechanic), though the 4runner isn't complicated to maintain much less repair.
I deal with "MP Auto at 1724 Carling" decent place to get most common repairs done. they swapped my front suspension to a ToyTech coil over kit with new Bilstein rear shocks, now rear air bags are goin, ahh well she's 10 years old now.

Why does everyone seem to go to the dealer for servicing? My neighbor works at a dealer ( non Toyota ) as a mechanic and he says the Dealer pushes them to "make work" on vehicles. unnecessary updates, repairs, etc.
I have a good mechanic located in the Greely area. Very knowledgeable, but not a dedicated Toyota or 4Runner mechanic by any means. He is honest and reliable. Full Disclosure - he is a friend of mine, but I wouldn't recommend anyone who wasn't good, friend or not.

Just moved to ottawa and the check engine light came on in my 03 v8. Code is p0430 (exhaust system below threshold). Want to take it to tony graham but they are expensive. Can anybody recommend a good mechanic in ottawa please? Or the dealership our only option?

Ottawa Area 4runner servicing
Hi all, I just became a new member today and I was looking through your post on Ottawa area 4runner servicing and I can recommend my mechanics that I have been bringing my 03 explorer for the past 12 yrs. These guys are very good and work in every make and model of any manufacturer. If you are looking for reliable and honest mechanics go to Dirienzo and Saikly Garage, 1 Spadina St.

I have dealt with Tony Graham Toyota in Ottawa for years. I honestly believe you mostly get what you pay for. I have had friends with the same vehicle who paid less in servicing through other smaller garages and the vehicles ride like crap compared to mine and the funny thing is the owners don’t even realize since it has happened over time and they have learned to live with it. It is annoying at times if TGM charges for small items like installing your cabin or engine air filter especially at the shop rate of $100+ an hour when you know some junior is capable of doing it and they could not charge for it. Also I don’t like this shop rate that seems to benefit the garage most of the time. I would much prefer to pay the time and then when I had a bolt that looked rusted they told me it would be extra if they have a problem getting the nut loose. I thought what about all the times I was paying the shop rate and it was done in half the time. That’s the way all the dealers roll though. Shop rate when it’s in their favour and charge you extra otherwise. Dealers’ service departments are like casinos...they never lose.
