BACK DOOR STAY (DAMPER)

Introduction

To ensure back door support on certain 2003 model year 4Runner vehicles, the back door stays have been changed.







NOTE: Before installing new back door stays, check the lot number located at the base of each stay body as indicated in the illustration shown. If the lot numbers match those indicated below, do NOT install them:

^ RH: 1EK25WJ80

^ LH: 1EK25WJ84

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

For further information, refer to the Technical Information System (TIS): 2003 model year 4Runner Repair Manual: Engine Hood/Door: Back Door Damper Stay Sub-assembly LH.

1. Remove the back door stay sub-assembly.








A. Remove the two bolts that secure the stay to the back door.

HINT: Ensure the back door is properly supported in the open position before removing the two back door stay bolts from the back door.

B. Remove the one bolt that secures the stay to the vehicle body.








NOTE: Before installing new back door stays, check the lot number located at the base of each stay body as indicated in the illustration. If the lot numbers match those indicated below, do NOT install them:

^ RH: 1EK25WJ80

^ LH: 1EK25WJ84

2. Install the new back door stay.

A. Install the two bolts that secure the stay to the back door.

Torque: 19.5 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)

B. Install the one bolt that secures the stay to the vehicle body.

Torque: 17.5 N.m (180 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)


3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the opposite side.
