iPOD, XM, Video, & Bluetooth on factory NAV

Please let me know if there is a better place I should post about this topic.

I contacted a company about what adapters they had for my factory nav system. Has anyone used these? Does anyone know of anything better?

I posted about a couple of these items in other threads, and will summarize them here when I get some more time.

Hi Jason,

1) At this time, we know of no way to input aftermarket VIDEO signal
into the factory screen.
2) You can control the Pioneer XM tuner with your factory system
using this adapter: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundpiotoy1.html.
You can instead, control the iPod using your factory system with the use
of this system: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pacauxpod.html.
We do not believe that the PIE Speakeasy cellular phone system will work
in the 4Runner manufactured after 2002.

Bluetooth

While it may not be part of the factory Nav system, look for Motorola to release a new Bluetooth handsfree module that can be added to any car within the next two months or so, could be released under the product name Blue Angel. At least that's what they're calling it internally right now. Allows for truly handsfree operation of bluetooth equipped phones.

Thanks for the inside scoop. I am especially excited that it is Motorola because my Motorola HS810 bluetooth headset works great with my Motorola V600. Thanks again and I will definitely keep an eye out for that.......along with the exciting MPX.
 
What CD changer did you use with the NAV?

I have a week old '04 Runner with NAV and the dealer hasn't been able to get the Toyota OEM changer (which is Panasonic I believe) to work with the Nav. I see you have an '03 with Nav+changer. Is yours FM modulated or integrated with Nav?
 
It is the Toyota 6-disc CD changer. It is completely integrated into the Navigation system. I really like it. You can even access it from the steering wheel control that says something like "mode". Now, 2003 and 2004 nav systems are a little different, but I don't think that should be the problem. Good luck. My guess is the guys are complete idiots and can't get to the back of the navi.

Except the other day all the lids in my car decided to stop working. The lid that covers the CD-magazine wasn't opening, so I forced it a little, and now it won't close. Well it sort of half-way closes. Has anyone had this problem? The other part is the ashtray/cointray cover doesn't close either. Time to make a run to the dealer, I guess.

I just reviewed your post and I didn't comment on the manufacturer of the CD changer.....all I remember is it says Toyota. I'll either look at it closer at lunch or afterwork and get back to you.
 
Well, I am still working on these items and found out a little more about adding alternate video sources to my factory NAV screen. www.nav-tv.com emailed me saying that 4runner, Camry, and Solara Nav systems are not a problem.

I just sent another email asking the following questions:

1. How much does it cost?

2. What video sources can I play through your unit? I am specifically wondering about a dvd player, backup cameras, and laptop computers. Thank you.

3. What do I do to activate the alternate video source? Simply flip an external switch?

4. Can you ship it directly to me so that I can either do the instal or take it to someplace local?


I will let you know when I find out more and certainly if I actually get something installed.
 
Video Feed to Nav Unit

OK, I'll be the curmudgeon -- a video feed to the factory installed Nav unit... there you are, heading down the intersate at 80 miles an hour,
Big Mac in one hand,
Super Gulpee in the other,
LA Times sports section spread out on the steering wheel so you can find last night's box scores,
NY Times crossword laying on the driver's seat,
twisted around backwards hollaring at the kids to settle down,
talking on the cell phone while looking in the vanity mirror trying to squeeze the zit on the end of your nose,
and you want to be watching "I,Robot" on the Nav screen?


I guess I have an old fashioned view of the world that when driving your mind out to be on... well driving!:awais:

Vaistech looks more reputable, but the product is considerably more expensive than Coastaletech's offering. I think the Coastaletech has an "auto accept" feature as well.

Unfortunately both are still in development.

On the Bluetooth end, I think we are screwed.
 
I am trying to figure out what I want to do for bluetooth in my 4runner. You can't use any of the adapters for the amplified system. Someone in Duc Hunter's thread said they had gotten there kit to mute the radio when it rings by tapping into the harness. I don't have any diagrams so I don't know how successful I would be doing that. I just upgraded my cingular account to the treo 650, and would like to get the bluetooth working so I could use the speakers and no external speaker.

If anyone could provide more detailed info as to how this could work, then please post...

Tap into F7 off the harness with the mute wire (yellow on mine) from the bluetooth kit. As far as using the stereo speakers that would be a little more difficult with the JBL 10 without some kind of interface cable or someone that knows more than me. I put my external speaker up in the dash right below the instument panel. With the mute function the sound plenty loud.

Is it possible to use the lexus navigation units for the 4runner? I know those include the bluetooth function.
 
So, how do you all like your moto bluetooth kits? I am thinking about getting one. I just got my Treo 650 and am looking for a car kit to work with it.

I just got the brand new motorols bt kit. I've only hooked it up and used it on the kitchen table, but it seems REALLY cool!

I just don't know how it will perform "in real life" when hooked up. But people liked the last version....
 
I found this thread via the search button but couldn't find anything more current. Anyone know the latest info on this idea? I want to be able to play all of my full 80gb video content on the nav screen in my 4runner

My 06 OEM nav has bluetooth as well. I also have an integrated Terk XM adapator installed as well as the IPod adaptor in the center console. However I think the IPod adapers are in all levels of 4runners for 06+. Video would be sweet!
