You handle things the same way I would--just slam the door shut before they can walk through it. As soon as they mentioned the cops, I'd probably call them myself, too--nip it in the bud right then and there. They signed a legal agreement just like you did--they need to honor it. If they didn't do their due diligence, tough luck--they'd do the same to you if you signed paperwork that gave them a trade-in for much less than you thought you were getting.
