Check the level when the atf is fully up to temp, then while parked move the shifter into each gear P-L for a sec or 2 with your foot on the brake and then back to P. Leave it running as you check the level, should be in the hot range at that point.

When I installed my cooler and flushed the trans, I made the mistake of checking it cold, and it wound up being below the hot range when hot. You want it to be in the correct range at operating temp.
