Definitely get the code checked by Autozone, PepBoys or one of the parts stores. They will pull them free of charge. Then come back and let us know which codes they were. The VSC and TRAC lights always come on with the CEL on these trucks. It is a Toyota thing. Once the code that is causing the CEL is cleared, the VSC and TRAC lights will also go off.

I forgot to add---the CEL has nothing to do with getting new tires. Like you said, just bad timing or coincidence.
