revved and died

Last night i went to the bar with my friends, and when we left my friend started his civic and revved his engine. I started laughing and revved my 4 runner and after the fifth revved it just turned off. i try turning it back on but it wouldn't go on the 1st try, then on the 2nd try i give it some throttle and it turned on then died again. finally on the 3rd try i give it more thorttle and it turned on and stayed on. This morning i went outside to start my runner and see if its still giving me this probelm and no started up like a champ. So what was the probelm that happen last night? signs that something is failing in the fuel department?
